Feb- Daarul Quran, under the auspices of the South African Quran Union opens school for the Memorization of the Holy Quran in Cape Town.

May- SAQU held fundraising dinner in aid of Madrassah funds

Aug - Women`s League hosted a `Snacks & Relax` event on Saturday, 8th August at Ottery Islamic Society Hall. Program included book reviews, health tips, free manicures, etc.

Aug- Saqu, Radio 786 and Sanzaf hosted its 2nd Annual Women`s Day program with the theme "Preparing for Ramadan" at Bridgetown Masjid, Cape Town on Mon 10 August.

Aug- Universal Islamic and Cultural Trust (UICT) and Saqu jointly hosted International Qiraa program from 6- 16 Aug in South Africa with World renowned Qurra: Qaari Sheikh Muhammad Abdurrab Rasool Safar (Sudan), Qaari Sheikh Mohamed Taifoor Sonmez (Turkey) and Qaari Oghuzhan Sivrikaya.

Aug- Saqu held annual Ramadan Qiraa program at Masjiduth- Thaanie in Rocklands, Cape Town.

Sept- Saqu supported Sanzaf Qiraa program in Woodlands Masjid by providing international reciter from Turkey.

Sept- Saqu and UICT jointly hosted the famous reciter from Egypt, Shaikh Sayyed Mutawalli Abdul Aal and his son in South Africa from 30 Oct- 2 Sept

Dec- The South African Qur`aan Union herewith invites you and your family to attend the `Cape Town Qur`aan Festival` that will be taking place at various mosques from 14- 20 December 2009, Insha`Allah.
Qari Abdullah Saeed Anwar, a leading Qur`aan reciter and Qiraa`aat teacher from Pakistan, will be the guest of honour at the event.
The venues are as follows:

Tues 15- Darul Islam Masjid, Surrey Estate After Maghrib
Wed 16- Masjiduth-Thanie, Rocklands After Maghrib

Fri 18- Husami Masjid, Cravenby Jumu`ah
Fri 18- Ahmedi Sunni Masjid, Grassy Park After Maghrib
Sat 19- Masjidul Irshaad, Woodlands After Maghrib
Sun 20- Habibia Soofi Masjid After Maghrib




South African Qur`aan Union are also offering free fulltime Hifdh classes for boys and girls at the Institute of Islamic Sharia Studies, Heideveld. Registrations are now open.

March- South African Qur"aan Union launched in Gauteng with recital programs at various mosques and meetings with Islamic institutions in the area
April- South African Qur"aan Union launched in Cape Town on 25 April 2008.

May- Al Ameen Haafith Institute in conjuction with SA Qur"aan Union hosted the renowned reciter of Qur"aan, Sh Raaghib Mustafa Ghalwash on his first tour in South Africa.

June- South African Qur"aan union hosted the renowned reciter of the Holy Qur"aan, Sh Abdul Fattaah At-Taarooti on his first recital tour of South Africa from 13- 17 June.
June- Madaaris Al Ansaar and the South African Qur"aan Union hosted Qaari Muhammad Binyamin and Qaari Abdullah bin Saeed Anwar-two renowned Qurraa from Pakistan in Cape Town.
July- South African Qur"aan Union hosted two of the most popular young reciters from Egypt, Shaikh Yaasir Sharqaawi and Shaikh Muhammad Ali Faraj on a tour throughout the country from 28 July- 10 Aug.
Aug- South African Qur"aan Union, together with its partners, South African National Zakah Fund and Radio 786, hosted the inaugural Women"s Day program on 9 Aug.

Sept- South African Qur"aan Union hosted renowned scholar, Sheikh Salamah Al Sayed from Egypt on a lecture tour in Cape Town.

Sept- South African Qur"aan Union"s Women"s League held special female programs for the month of Ramadan.

Sept- South African Qur"aan Union and Islamic Relief Worl Wide partnered on a successful Inaugural Interschool Qur'aan Competition.

- South African Qur"aan Union hosted Qiraa"ah program on 28 September at Masjiduth Thaanie, Rocklands

Nov- Universal Islamic Cultural Trust (UICT) and South African Qur"aan Union presented the first- ever tour of famous Turkish reciters in South Africa.

Dec- SAQU hosted an international Qiraa prog in the Gauteng and Western Cape provinces with Qaari Raadhi Kamarul Hailan from Malaysia, Dr. Muhammad Ali from Indonesia and Sheikh Yasin Sha"rawi from Egypt.
